Net-Metering Information

Net Metering Tariffs

Net metering is available to member-generators who own, operate and maintain electrical generating facilities using solar energy designed to operate in parallel with the existing Inter-County Energy electrical distribution system and be primarily intended to offset part or all of the member-generator’s own electrical requirements.  If you install a solar-electric generating system or wind generation, hydro, biomass or biogas at your home or office with a capacity of 45 kilowatts or less, you may qualify for Kentucky's Net Metering Program. Solar applications can be sent to dannyl@intercountyenergy.net and dan@intercountyenergy.net.  For more information go to Kentucky Solar.  Our Net-Metering Tariff can also be found at the following link. KY PSC Home

Another resource for those interested in installing solar is the Kentucky Solar Energy Society.  Here you can find the latest in Kentucky on solar and a list of solar companies in and around Kentucky.

Wind and Solar in Kentucky

While thinking about alternative ways to reduce your electric bills each month, it is important to remember several factors such as wind speed average and the amount of sunlight.  Before committing to either one, use the following worksheet to assist you in calculating the annual equipment operating cost.  Net-Metering Worksheet

Cooperative Solar Farm One

Cooperative Solar One leading the way with more to come!

EKPC and its 16 owner-member electric cooperatives plan to license solar panels to co-op members from not only one solar farm but two additional solar farms.  Both solar farm construction projects are set to start in mid-2026 and commissioned in mid-2027.

Cooperative Solar Farm Two – Fayette

A 387-acre solar farm in eastern Fayette County, Ky., along Interstate 64 will generate 40 megawatts of electricity, enough to serve the annual electricity needs of 4,560 typical Kentucky homes.  Learn more

Cooperative Solar Farm Three – Marion

A 635-acre solar farm in Marion County, Ky., north of Lebanon. This solar farm will generate 96 megawatts of electricity, enough to serve the annual electricity needs of 10,940 typical Kentucky homes.  Learn more

Currently, co-op members receive credit on their electric bills for their proportionate share of energy produced from Cooperative Solar Farm One. The arrangement is known as Cooperative Solar.  Check out Cooperative Solar's Facebook page, How solar works, and a Q&A Informational Sheet

With a one-time payment of $460, participants will receive the benefits of renewable energy without having to install or maintain facilities on their own property. Their monthly electric bills will be credited for the value of the energy and capacity associated with their licensed share of the solar farm.

Co-Generation

Inter-County Energy and 16 owner-member cooperatives along with EKPC, are required by the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act (PURPA) of 1978 to provide qualifying facilities (QFs) access to its electric grid. The requirements for QFs to gain access to the electric grid system are outlined in the following documents:

If you are a member of Inter-County Energy and are interested in submitting an application for Co-Generation, select Co-Gen.  By clicking, you will have access to the Real-time EKPC Residual Aggregate LMP$/MWh information.
